The Mission of the Maternal Child Section is to provide timely, contemporary care within a family friendly setting; therefore, meeting the unique needs of each family member we serve during this special time.

Education Opportunities:

Tiny Toes Childbirth Classes

Provided by Winn and Army Community Services (ACS); Three childbirth classes reviewing the labor and delivery experience, postpartum care, baby care, and hospital unit tour.  Classes are given monthly.  Registration starts at twenty-four weeks of pregnancy.  Call 912-435-6633 and follow prompts to OB/GYN, or register at your OB appointment.
 

The Scoop on Breastfeeding:

 

Register via appointment line: attend between 28 -38 weeks

When: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month (except only held on 2nd Tuesday in Dec).

Time: 1000-1130

Where: 1st Floor Nutrition Care Clinic

Instructors: Registered dietician and lactation consultant

  •  Learn the basics of breastfeeding during pregnancy..

  •  Learn how to get off to a good start.
     Get empowered about your feeding decision.

  •  Get more information if you are undecided.
     Learn about the support available at Winn.

  •  Bring your questions!

  •  Fathers/support persons welcome.
     

Back to Work and Breastfeeding Class:

 

Registration not mandatory but advised: Call appointment line 435-6633/OB.

 

When: Held monthly on second Wednesday of each month

Time:  1100-1300.

Location: 1st floor, Liberty Wing conference room

Instructors: lactation consultant and a breastfeeding/working mom (usually a

soldier)

Bring baby and lunch. Attend 1-2 months postpartum with infant or attend in 3rd trimester

  • Learn how to continue to breastfeed and make plenty of milk after returning

  • to work.

  • Learn pumping tips.

  • Network with other mothers.


Breast, Bottle and Spoon  (0-4 months)

Get a head start on learning how to manage the best diet possible for your newborn, ages 0 to 4 months.  Class given monthly.  Register at anytime.  Call 912-435-6633 and follow prompts to OB/GYN, or register at your OB appointment.

 

Sibling Class

The Sibling class is designed for children 3 to 12 years of age.   Spend some fun time learning how to be an "Official Big Brother or Sister."  The class is given monthly.  Registration starts at 32 weeks of pregnancy.  Call 912-435-6633 and follow prompts to OB/GYN, or register at your OB appointment.

 

Annual Baby Expo

A yearly summer event where the community can learn of all the resources available to support our growing families!  Nice door prizes available.  Event typically occurs in August.

 

Patient Services Rendered:

Labor and Delivery- Triage services for 20 weeks of pregnancy or greater, antepartum, intrapartum cesarean, postpartum services.
Special Services- Golden Hour (skin to skin)

 

Mother Baby Unit-  Antepartum, postpartum services, level 1 nursery care.
Special Services- Couplet Care, Lactation consultant available

 

24 Hour Staffing
Knowledgeable nursing staff
OB provider to manage the maternal patient
Pediatric provider to manage the newborn
Anesthesia to manage the epidural service

 

Visiting Policy

 
Labor and Delivery visiting hours are 24 hours per day except during the golden hour or when the patient declines visitors.

Mother Baby Unit visiting hours are 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., except when the patient declines visitors.

Patients can entertain up to 5 visitors at a time.  Only one adult family member is permitted to stay overnight with the patient.

 

 Help us Keep Our Moms and Newborns Healthy

Visitors must clean their hands before and after entering the patient room to decrease possilbe infection.  Any family or visitor who has experienced fever, chills, sore throat, cough, vomiting, or diarrhea in the previous 48 hours is prohibted from entering Labor and Delivery or Mother Baby Unit to protect our moms and newborns.

 

Visiting Children

Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older.  Please do not leave children unattended in our waiting room at any time.  If a visiting child is crying, scared of what is occurring, or disruptive the child and an adult may be asked to sit in the waiting room.  Children of any age will not be left within the section to be attended by a hospitalized patient.
